Microsoft’s Xbox Live Gold will be replaced by Game Pass Core in September
From Microsoft’s Xbox Live Gold to Xbox Game Pass Core
Microsoft has recently unveiled a new subscription service catering to Xbox owners, named Xbox Game Pass Core. This offering is set to replace the existing Xbox Live Gold and comes with a host of enhanced benefits for its subscribers.
Xbox Game Pass Core will include the usual online multiplayer feature on consoles, exclusive deals, discounts, and an enticing collection of over 25 games. Some of the notable titles available in this catalog are Gears 5, Forza Horizon 4, and Psychonauts 2. Microsoft also plans to regularly add new games to the collection, enriching the gaming experience.
Effective September 14th, current Xbox Live Gold members will be seamlessly transitioned to Xbox Game Pass Core, with no change in the pricing, remaining at $9.99 per month or $59.99 per year. However, Microsoft has decided to discontinue the Games with Xbox Live Gold plan from September 1st onwards.
This means that subscribers will no longer receive free games every month. Previously redeemed Xbox 360 games will remain in the library, while Xbox One games will require an active subscription to either Xbox Game Pass Core or Game Pass Ultimate.
Jerret West, the CVP of gaming marketing at Xbox, explained that the introduction of Xbox Game Pass Core prompted a re-evaluation of their content inclusion strategy. Following thorough consideration, they concluded that curating a captivating catalog would be best achieved by incorporating a selection of titles from their existing Xbox Game Pass collection.
